A free Kudoboard alternative: Letterium compared
How a free group card that plays as a show compares with Kudoboard: what each one costs, what a card can hold, and when Kudoboard is the better pick.
Kudoboard is the best-known online group card in the US. Letterium does a narrower job: it gathers handwritten-style messages and plays them for one person as a show. This page sets out the differences so you can pick the one that fits your occasion.
What it costs
- Letterium
- The card, collecting messages and the viewing link are free, for up to 300 signers. The optional keepsake (a PDF and print-ready image of the card) is US$6.99 (plus any sales tax, shown at checkout), paid once per card.
- Kudoboard
- Single boards were priced at $6.99 (Lite, 20 posts), $9.99 (Premium, 100 posts with video and download) and $19.99 (Milestone, unlimited posts with slideshow), with yearly plans for companies from $299. Prices as listed on Kudoboard’s pricing page on October 6, 2026.
What a card holds
- Letterium
- Typed messages drawn in a handwriting font each signer picks, plus a signature, note or doodle drawn with a finger. No photos, GIFs or videos.
- Kudoboard
- Posts laid out on a board. Premium boards can include video.
What the recipient sees
- Letterium
- A show: the envelope opens, a camera moves over a large sheet, messages arrive one by one, and signatures play back as they were drawn. It ends with everyone’s messages around the recipient’s name.
- Kudoboard
- A board to scroll through, with confetti, and a slideshow on Milestone.
When Kudoboard is the better choice
- You want people to post video clips, which Kudoboard’s Premium boards allow.
- Your company runs an employee recognition program and wants a yearly plan.
- You want the board printed as a poster or a book.
- The card is a memorial. Kudoboard sells memorial boards, and our show ends in a celebration that doesn’t suit one.
When Letterium fits
- You want the card itself to be free, with no post limit below 300 people.
- You’re playing it at a farewell or retirement party and want something to watch together, without editing a video.
- You like the feel of handwriting and finger-drawn signatures more than photos.
